Wizard of Oz Jackson
The play is a lot of fun. The highlight is the three actors playing the Scarecrow, Lion, and Tin Man. They have tremendous energy, good chemistry, and a great knack for physical comedy. Dorothy is very good, but projects a little old. On the other hand, the actors playing Auntie Em and Uncle Henry seem a little young for the parts (but both shine in their second roles as the Doorkeeper and Glenda).
The Wizard seemed to be trying too hard to not channel Frank Morgan and seemed a little vague. The Wicked Witch brought a different perspective (more humor), but made the role her own.
There are three major song and dance numbers not in the movie. The crow and the poppy scenes added some texture to the show. But the Jitterbug number totally interupts the flow and doesn't add anything.
As I said, it was a lot of fun. What I missed (from the movie) was any sense of menace. When I was a child, the Wicked Witch was truly frightening and I would worry for Dorothy. Maybe it is intentional, but there just isn't any suspense.
